Songs of nostalgia that make you feel like a kid again 🐾

Nostalgia is a powerful emotion that has been studied for decades. In the 1960s, Walter Mischel, a psychologist from Stanford University, performed a series of experiments to identify the effect of nostalgia on behavior. In one study, he gave children two choices after they ate a marshmallow: "If you wait for 15 minutes without touching this marshmallow while I go out of the room and then come back and ask for it, you can have 2 marshmallows."

In his studies, Walter Mischel found that children who were told "a story about being given an opportunity to play with another child" before being offered the first marshmallow waited twice as long as those who had not been told that story. He concluded that nostalgia affects behavior by heightening our sense of self-control.

Tired of the same old songs on your playlist? Throwback to the past with some nostalgic music.

We have all had that moment when you are in the car, alone, with nothing to do but drive for hours on end. And then you start playing your favorite songs from the radio or Spotify playlist. You might even start scrolling through your old favorites on your phone or iPod, looking for some good tunes to make this long trip go by quicker. But why is it that there are always those few songs in our playlists that we can’t seem to get rid of no matter how many times we shuffle them around?

Most people would say it is because they are their favorite songs - but what if there was a scientific reason behind it?
